Terms of Service

1. Service Overview

Merit ("the Service") is a private career asset tool operated by Guillaume Meliot ("we", "us") at getmerit.pro. Merit helps professionals capture, organise, and act on evidence of their work achievements.

2. Account & Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Merit. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. One account per person.

3. Free & Paid Plans

Merit offers a free tier with limited functionality and a paid Pro tier with expanded features including AI-assisted capabilities. Paid subscriptions are billed monthly through Stripe. You may cancel at any time through the billing portal – access continues until the end of the current billing period.

4. Billing, Cancellations, and Disputes

If you subscribe to a paid Merit plan, your subscription is billed monthly until you cancel. You can cancel at any time through the billing portal. When you cancel, your subscription stays active until the end of your current billing period and will not renew after that date.

Because Merit is a digital subscription service, we do not provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods, unused time, or partial use of the service.

Merit provides software tools to help you capture, organise, and improve your professional materials. Your results depend on how you use the service and the quality of the information you provide. We do not guarantee interviews, offers, promotions, or any specific career outcome.

If you believe there has been a billing error, you agree to contact us first at hello@getmerit.pro so we can investigate and try to resolve the issue directly before a charge is disputed with your card provider. We respond to all billing enquiries within 48 hours.

5. AI-Assisted Features

Merit includes optional AI-assisted features (STAR parsing, CV import, performance review generation, CV bullet generation) that process your content through Anthropic's API. When you use these features:

• Only the specific content required for processing is sent (entry title, body text, or CV text). No account information, tags, or metadata is transmitted.
• Anthropic does not use API inputs to train its models by default.
• AI-generated content is placed in editable fields as drafts. It is not saved unless you explicitly save the entry.
• We make no guarantees about accuracy or completeness of AI-generated content. Always review before using in professional contexts.

Use of AI features is subject to Anthropic's Usage Policy. You may not use these features to generate misleading, fraudulent, or harmful content.

6. Your Data

You own your data. We do not sell, share, or use your content for model training. You may export all your data at any time (JSON format). If you delete your account, we automatically export your data to you before deletion. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

7. Acceptable Use

Do not use Merit to store or process content that is illegal, harmful, or violates third-party rights. Do not attempt to access other users' data or circumvent security measures. We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these terms.

8. Limitation of Liability

Merit is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
